Qu’importe le parcours, que Bangkok et Lima soient effectivement situées de manière diamétralement opposée l’une à l’autre à la surface du globe ou qu’Honolulu fasse aussi partie de l’Océanie; il semble, à se prendre les premiers contre-pieds, que s’il ne passe pas par l’Australie (à la rigueur la Nouvelle-Zélande) le tour n’est pas du monde (mais juste un petit tour et puis s’en vont).
La vox populi veut un James Cook ou rien, l’imaginaire collectif réclame cette seule destination comme point de passage obligé pour homologuer le continuum d’une expédition moderne – à quoi sert de sortir de chez soi si ce n’est pour rencontrer un aborigène ou un māori dans son paradis perdu ? …Tout un continent résumé à un lieu commun d’allégories surannées.
Il est pourtant rarement cité comme une destination exotique (pas assez tropical, pas assez stéréotypé, les papous effraient encore ? …). On ne lui demande que d’être une borne de mi-parcours, le checkpoint ensoleillé à l’autre bout du monde, le jalon du retour au bercail.
Fi des positions péremptoires! Nul besoin de balise pour sonner le départ.

Whatever the route and than Bangkok and Lima are actually located diametrically opposite one another on the globe’s surface or that Honolulu be also part of Oceania, it seems, taking the first opposite lines, that if it does not pass by Australia (at a pinch by New Zealand) a tour is not an around the world (but just a little tour and then leave).
The vox populi wants a James Cook or nothing, the collective imagination demands this single destination, as the prerequisite crossing point, to certify the continuum of a modern shipping – why going away if it is not to meet with an aborigine or
māori in their lost paradise ? A whole continent … summarized as a commonplace full of outdated allegories.
However, it is rarely mentionned as an exotic land (not enough tropical, not enough stereotypical, Papuans still frighten ? …). It is asked as a marker halfway, the sunny checkpoint on the other side of the world, the milestone of homecoming.
Ignore peremptory positions! No need of beacons to sound the departure.
